Hello, I’m John Richardson.
I’m an author, speaker, and digital media creator. Many people know me because of my articles and downloadable templates on goal setting, habit change, and time management. I’ve been blogging here for over thirteen years where I try to find the best strategies for success.
I research topics and solutions from writers and speakers across a wide range of disciplines — entrepreneurs, CEOs, academics, and more — to uncover what empowers these people to be the best at what they do. Then, I share what I learn in blog posts, articles, and email updates.
Over the years, my articles have been read by over a million visitors to the site and shared on outlets including Lifehacker, Michael Hyatt, and numerous blog networks.I don’t have all the answers, but I’ve found some strategies that work well and others that don’t.
My Vision for 2019
For the New Year, I’m taking a different direction. For many years on the blog, I’ve talked about goal setting, habit change, and personal development. While these are compelling topics, I’ve been frustrated that they haven’t worked as well as promised.
I’ve set numerous goals and attempted to change numerous habits, but the results have been less than stellar. The problem isn’t the goal and it usually isn’t a habit to blame. It’s the fact that I haven’t set up a complete system for success.
After doing a lot of research and soul searching, I realized that it was me that was failing to complete my desired goals. I couldn’t blame this on anyone else, mainly because there was no one else to blame. As I would head toward my goal, the system or lack of one would break down and my progress would stop dead.
The bottom line was, I hadn’t set up a system for success.
I had a goal,
I set up some new habits,
But one snag and the progress stopped.
This year, instead of goals and habits, I want to explore systems that lead to success. As part of this, I’ve developed a simple framework called the LIST Manifesto. LIST stands for
- Legacy
- Impact
- System
- Trend
LIST is simply a way to accomplish things by starting with the end in mind. We simply examine the legacy or end results of running a system. We then look at the current and future impact of the system. Then we list out the components of the system and create a simple diagram of the parts and actions. The last component is the trend. We examine whether this system destined to grow or to die.
Four parts that will show us how a system works, who it helps, how it progresses, and help us determine whether it will ultimately be a success or failure.
I am really excited about examining this subject as it has the potential to far exceed goal setting or habit change techniques and really provide a workable tool to create success.

Inspiration
For 2019 I’ve found that blogging and social media have changed. It’s not enough anymore to post informational content. Many people are burned out on productivity and time hacks that just make more time so they can get more non-important stuff done. I’ve found that people are looking for meaning and inspiration. You really want to know what life strategy to lean your ladder against that will help you live out your purpose and your goals.
To help you in this quest, I’ve started writing inspirational short stories. They take about ten minutes to read and may help you see some of life’s problems and challenges through the eyes of a character that just may be a lot like you. To check them out just click on the inspiration tab in the menu above.
