In my first book, The Path of Consequence, one of the characters reveals 7 different attributes or “talents” that make up a successful life. One of those talents is “place.” It’s the idea of finding the perfect place to live or work or somewhere just to visit. It’s finding your OZ at the end of a yellow brick road. It’s discovering the small town in the middle of nowhere that has character and charm. It’s the bed and breakfast house, restored from an earlier time, with a hearty breakfast and great company.
Do you have a place like that?
What’s it like?
Is it somewhere that you live now or is it a dream… a far away dream that you want to come true…
Imagine in your mind for a moment, that wonderful place.
What do you see?
Are there people around? If so, what are they like.
Do you smell the aroma of food or maybe the clear fresh air of outdoors?
Do you long to travel and find that unique place?
Does it have a name… write it down.
Maybe your place isn’t like that at all.
Maybe it’s dirty and smelly. Full of noise and commotion. Maybe there is graffiti, crime, and danger.
Maybe there is someone that needs your help… your talents and solutions.
But that may not be your place either.
Look out your window.
Maybe your place is at the top of that mountain in the distance.
It might be across that lake or river or ocean.
Maybe it’s an island somewhere.
Maybe it’s that big red house on the hill.
Maybe… just maybe… you can reach that place and call it home or just visit and stay for a while.
Look at your surroundings now… is this your place?
Or do you long to find something new
Somewhere you have never been.
Why not explore?
Why not create?
Why not go?
Why not take that first step?
Question: Where is your place?
