There you are driving down the highway and it flashes by you in the next lane at high speed. You accelerate quickly to try and catch up. This car is already quite a ways past you but you have never seen one like it before. What is it? What make? What model? Your foot slowly mashes the accelerator down further. You slowly creep up on the speeding machine and you can barely make out the badge on the trunk lid. A SLR… a SLR what, you wonder? All of a sudden your exit comes up and you must leave the freeway. You know that the car looked awesome and that you want one.
Before the internet you would have had a hard and expensive time finding out what that exotic car was. But now a few clicks in Google and you have your answer. It was a McLaren SLR Mercedes. At over 450,000 dollars it is way out of your pocketbook, but the inspiration remains. You can see yourself driving that beautiful car. Visions of racing red paint glowing in the sun, the wind blowing in your hair. You feel energized! Then you wake up and notice that your 99 Ford Taurus doesn’t quite measure up.
You do a little more research and do a search for used Mercedes. There are no SLR’s but quite a few SL’s and SLK’s. You always have dreamed of owning a Mercedes sports car but knew you couldn’t afford one. Hmmmm… that’s interesting… you look at the prices and realize that you can get a pretty exciting used SLK for under 25 grand. A Mercedes sports car for under 25k? You are really inspired now. Within days a beautiful low-mileage Red 2001 SLK is in your driveway.
