While my weekdays are usually planned out in advance on a calendar, my weekends tend to have more free flow events. As a creative person, I usually like to take the weekend as it comes. While this adds a sense of adventure, it also can lead to a lot of lost time.
A while back my daughter came down for a visit and we had an upcoming weekend before us. My wife and I struggled to think of things that the three of us could do. We agonized about it for a while, but she finally took out a sheet of paper, tore it into thirds, and passed it around. We each wrote down three things that we wanted to do and passed the sheets back to my wife. She wrote the nine things down on one sheet of paper. We brainstormed ideas and then collectively planned out our weekend in under five minutes.
I was amazed how simple the whole process was and how we were able to plan both days in a short amount of time. Looking back, that weekend turned out great. We knew where we were going, at what time, and had a flow of events that we all were prepared for.
As I’m looking ahead to this upcoming weekend, I think I will try the same plan of action. Nothing fancy… just a sheet of paper and some ideas.
How about you? What strategies do you use for planning a great weekend?
