I’ve been blogging now for over nine years. In that time I’ve written close to a thousand posts and had over a million visitors, who have left thousands of comments. I have enjoyed the journey and have met many great people along the way. Many of you have come along for the ride, year after year. For that, I’m incredibly grateful. Yet over the past few years, blogging has become more difficult.
The structure here has become old and dated. Putting a post up is like painting old wood, on an old house with a crumbling foundation. It covers for a little while, but it doesn’t fix the underlying problem.
I’ve tried adding video, changing blog templates, and adding layers of social media, but in the end, it’s just more paint on old wood.
It looks good for a week or two, but the old layers of paint start peeling, the wood cracks and the termites eat away.
The worst part is that the foundation is gone, the structure is leaning, and cracks keep forming.
I need to rebuild, and start with a new foundation.
I’ve searched for a workable solution.
One that will allow me to build.
One that is strong
And sits true.
A book.
Three years ago I discovered some words that form an acronym. The words encompassed a journey that I took after my dad died, which completely changed my attitude, my outlook, and my life. These five words describe the path that I took, trying to discover what is truly important in life. Words that survived the scrutiny of inspection, and form a powerful foundation for building a life that matters. Words that form a roadmap for success.
They are…
Legacy, Impact, Goals, Habits, and Time.
They form the word LIGHT.
You start at the end of your life. You look at what is left. Your Legacy. The Impact you had. The Goals, Habits, and Time that got you there.
Then you turn the LIGHT source around and plan for the Legacy and Impact you truly want to have, by setting goals, changing habits and managing your time to get the results you want.
LIGHT is a powerful acronym that describes the journey. For the last two years I’ve tried different variations of the word, trying to come up with a term that would better describe how LIGHT works… things like Relevant LIGHT, Impending LIGHT, and the LIGHT Principle. Yet none of these truly resonated with me. They didn’t describe the outcome. Without a word, I didn’t have a foundation to build on. I needed a descriptor that would be instantly recognizable, illustrate the principle, and possibly be the title of a book.
I spent weeks and months searching, yet nothing seemed to work, especially if it was going to title a book and have a unused domain name.
Then, one day last week, just by accident, I was trying different domain combinations on GoDaddy, when the word appeared.
It popped up in green meaning it was available.
And it described the outcome to a tee.
The word is simply
Outsucceed
It describes someone that outlives their life, reaches past their communities, and creates success for others.
It illustrates the effect of looking past ourselves and creating a world changing Impact
It truly describes the outcome of a LIGHT focused life.
And it might just make a good book title.
I like to start a project with a picture in mind. This is just an early mock-up with some tag lines. As a writer, I like to take an idea and see where it leads. The exciting part of writing, is the journey. This word gives me a foundation, and a start. I’m excited to see where the path goes. The stories, the experiences, the outcomes. Some will be mine, many will be yours. I’m excited to get started.
Won’t you come along…
