Every day that we wake up, we face a battle. It may take the form of temptation, procrastination, or just a curious distraction. These things take us away from our desired focus. While there are many common items that vie for our attention, there are unusual ones that come from time to time. For example, you may be biding your time on your diet just fine, until the plate of incredible brownies enters the room.
I’ve come up with a simple acronym that describes this daily fight…. It’s WAR and it spells out…
W = Wisdom from the past. When I’m facing a challenge, it’s always good to refer to memory and see if I have faced this challenge before. Many times experience is the best teacher.
A = Action for today. I am often tempted to procrastinate. To put off until tomorrow what I really should be doing today. When I make a point of taking action, I move forward. Even five minutes on a project is better than ignoring it. If I take the action to start working on a project, momentum usually kicks in and I usually get much further along the path than I originally planned.
R = Roadmap to the future. One of the best things you can do in life is to set goals for yourself. Once these are written down, you can design a roadmap for their completion. If you take action every day to move down these paths, you’ll find that they are completed before you know it.
Using this simple acronym reminds me that we are at war on a daily basis. When we realize the battle that we are facing, we can take the appropriate action. It’s a simple reminder that each day is a gift and we need to make the most of it.
