I was a part of Melissa Taylor’s book launch for her amazing new book, Pinterest Savvy. She offered it for free the first day, and we watched it climb the Kindle top seller list all day. It started at #4,000 at 8am and climbed the ladder to #14 by midnight. It was an exciting day, to say the least. What helped her book do so well (Close to 10,000 copies released the first day) was her social media connections, especially the million followers she has on Pinterest.
Reading through her book, she has a host of popular tips and tricks to help you boost your following. One of the best and easiest to accomplish is to create visual quote graphics. You can do this in Photoshop, or in one of the online creation programs she lists in her book.
For this post, I put together some simple but bold Life Quotes using a bold and expressive font and bright colors. To maximize your graphics for Pinterest you want to make them big so they can be read easily. The maximum width in Pinterest is 600 pixels wide. Anything greater than that will be sized down. Two sizes seem to work well. Square graphics fit well into the smaller icons that Pinterest creates under their boards. I like 600px x 600px for this size. The other size that does well is a slight elongated version which looks good on the boards themselves. I like 600px wide x 800px long.
If you keep your graphics simple and limited in colors, saving them as a PNG file will create small file sizes. If you are using photographs with a large color pallet, JPGs will result in a better look at a smaller size.
