One of my favorite personal development concepts is an easy to remember acronym that I learned from author, Nicholas Boothman. It is simple and easy to remember.
Know what you want
Find out what you are getting
Change what you do until you get what you want.
The three sentences spell out KFC.
Every time I drive past a KFC restaurant, I think of this powerful triad. However, over the past few weeks after reading The Power of Habit by Charles Duhigg, I think we can modify this slightly to incorporate the life changing effects of new habits.
As I talked about in a previous post, a habit consists of three things…
A Cue, Routine, and Reward.
So to modify our acronym, lets change a few words…
Know what you want
Find out what rewards you are getting
Change your routine until you get what you want.
The secret to habit change is to keep the current cue and reward but change the routine.
This previous post and our habit change worksheet will help you modify existing habits to finally enable you to get what you want.
Now we have a simple acronym to remember the process.
Now all you need to know is what you truly want…
We’ll talk about that in our next post.
Question: What habits would you like to change?
