Simply put, I over promised, and under delivered. My mastermind group had given me a challenge last month. I needed to create a paid product for my blog or write an article why I failed to do so. Pretty simple task, or so I thought. Heck, some of the blog experts say you can launch a new product in just days.
I took on the challenge with eyes wide open. I had some great product ideas, so I took the one I was most passionate about, outlined it, and set a month long goal to accomplish it. I came up with a series of action steps, listed out the information I would need, and got to work. Unfortunately, I made a classic goal setting mistake. I picked a project that was rather difficult to do, and I tried to do it all by myself. I quickly ran out of motivation and know-how.
The problem was my creative mind. I knew I had to create “WOW” as Michael Hyatt would say. I simply didn’t want a mediocre product.
After two weeks of work, I had the foundation built. Instead of launching this on my regular blog, I would create a new site, write compelling content, and launch the whole thing with lots of fanfare. It was at this point that things got complicated. I had a shiny new StudioPress template designed with a new logo, a list of blog post ideas, and a product list that would knock your socks off. Unfortunately, my bright ideas were soon outstripping my ability to complete them. I realized I needed help, so I decided to hire someone to guide me along.
This is where it got real frustrating.
I contacted numerous people via their blogs, LinkedIn pages, and websites.
I needed three people.
- I needed a blog coach
- I needed a copywriter
- I needed a fiction editor (to edit my new book)
I soon received some quick replies from some of the top people that I contacted. Almost all of them were too busy to take on new clients, so they referred me to someone else. While this was frustrating, it got worse when other people never got back to me at all. Out of a dozen or so inquiries, I ended up with one person that got back to me, and could help. What was totally amazing about this, is he responded within an hour, made special arrangements to accommodate me, and told me in no uncertain terms that I should wait to launch my product. He not only offered blog coaching, but he is one of the top writers in the blog-o-sphere.
Now we were getting somewhere.
The other thing about this guy that you should know, is that he can only move the muscles of his face, he gets things done with his voice … and his voice alone.
In fact, when he was born, the doctors only gave him two years to live.
Wow.
Jon Morrow is a very helpful person. He has nailed the big problem I was having as a blogger. My traffic was down, nobody was commenting, and I felt almost helpless to do anything about it. He has put together a 10 week class on guest blogging, that offers the best hope I’ve found in a long time to boost my blog traffic and launch a new product. The cool thing is, he guarantees that his program will get you a top placed blog article or you get your money back.
The program starts February 15th
Unfortunately, that means I have to write this post. But it also means I now have a much greater chance of success.
BTW: I still need a fiction editor (specializing in mystery/suspense), if you know of anyone that you would recommend.
